Our Approach

How children learn at Journey

We do these things not because the State requires them, but because we believe it’s what’s best for children. In most cases, we exceed the guidelines set by licensing and accrediting agencies.

🎨

Reggio Emilia–Inspired Learning

We honor the “Hundred Languages of Children” — words, movement, music, drawing, sculpting, painting, collage, dramatic play, and writing. Children explore their environment and express their understanding through many forms. The environment itself acts as a “third teacher”: safe, nurturing, and full of possibility.

🌲

Nature-Based Education

Our beautiful 2-acre campus is a living classroom. We spend part of every day outdoors—rain or shine—because nature builds resilience, sparks wonder, and supports the whole child. The natural world is viewed as a co-teacher in everything we do.

💛

Conscious Discipline

Our staff are trained in Conscious Discipline, a trauma-informed, brain-based model. Rather than punishing behavior, we consciously teach new skills—emotional regulation, healthy boundaries, and problem-solving—using safety, connection, and positive intent for children and adults alike.

🥕

Scratch-Made Meal Program

Every child enjoys breakfast, lunch, and two snacks daily—prepared in-house from scratch with locally-sourced, ~90% organic ingredients. Our chef partners with teachers to compost, recycle, and grow ingredients in the school gardens.

🤝

Community

Children, families, teachers, and neighbors learn as one interactive, collaborative community. Through documentation, portfolio nights, and shared traditions, we build the warm, supportive relationships where every child feels safe, secure, and loved.
